Shawn's Bio

Shawn Andrew Smith, a born-and-raised “burgher”, recently attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA where he worked on his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Musical Theater and has just moved to the Chicagoland area to persue his career.  Shawn has worked with various companies in the Pittsburgh area including Pittsburgh Musical Theater (Beauty and the Beast, Footloose, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon), McKeesport Little Theater (Deathtrap, Funny Thing…Forum), The Theater Factory (S.O.U.L.S. Inc.), and the Pittsburgh Playhouse Conservatory (Jekyll and Hyde).   In 2003, Shawn was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Deathtrap (McKeesport Little Theater) and nominated for Best Actor at the 2006 Pittsburgh New Works Festival for his role in Death on Flagler (Cup-a-Jo Productions).  He also spent ten months with the Pittsburgh cast of Tony and Tina’s Wedding as the brides ex-boyfriend, Michael Just.

 

Recent film and television work includes The Kill Point (Spike TV), Adventureland (Dir. Greg Mottola), She's Out of My League (Dreamworks Pictures) and Zack and Miri Make a Porno (Dir. Kevin Smith), and just wrapped filming for "Market Squared", Pittsburgh first sitcom and the pilot episode of "In Transition" (Hilarity Ensues).  Shawn also appeared in Wanted (which screened at the Toronto ReelHeART International Film Festival, June 18 – 23, 2007), All Saints Eve, SCRATCH: A Dark and Stormy Night and recently finished "Till Death Do Us Part", which co-starred Brenna Lee Roth.

 

Shawn has also worked as a stage manager (Two Gentlemen of Verona, Cats, Godspell, The Wiz) carpenter, set designer (Pittsburgh premiere of Alexander and the Terrible...Very Bad Day, Guys and Dolls, Funny Thing...Forum), director (Children of Eden, Joseph…Dreamcoat, Seussical) and lighting designer (Fuddy Meers and Nunsense). He also taught at Pittsburgh Musical Theater, John Robert Powers Modeling in Pittsburgh and was a Theatrical Consultant and Professional Mentor for the C.O.P.C. Project, a non-profit community outreach program in the McKees Rocks area partnered with Point Park University and Focus On Renewal.  In his "spare" time, Shawn is a Brand Ambassador and has done promotional work for Pepsi, Blackberry, Verizon, Sprint, ESPN360.com, and the Showtime series, "Dexter" and is a part time bartender in and around the Chicago area.
